Payment Methods
In general a 10% deposit will be enough to secure a purchase. However, owing to the fact we deal with more than one contractor, deposits do vary, so it is necessary to enquire about the specific property that you are interested in.
Paperwork
To assure everything is legal and above board the following steps are a must.
- Appoint a Lawyer who could be given the Power of Attorney to act on your behalf in order to sign documents in your absence, open a Tax Account for you and allocate a Public Notary.
- The Lawyer must draw up a contract stating methods of payment, building specifications and completion dates where applicable. In addition, the Public Notary who is a Government Representative will need to verify the topographic plans which have been drawn up by a Civil Engineer in order for the signing of the contract to be considered legal.
- A Greek Bank account needs to be opened if one doesn’t already exist.
- Legal costs can be estimated at about 10-15% of the purchase price and must be settled prior to signing the contract.
